About this event

Join Jenny Ayrton from Art & Energy Collective, together with KWMC The Factory, to learn how to design and paint your own 'Stars' inspired solar panel artwork, which will become part of the Filwood Fantastic 'Walk of Hearts & Stars'.

Art & Energy Collective will transform your painted designs into solar-powered panels to create sustainable, individual light-up artworks powered by the energy of the sun.

KWMC The Factory will fabricate box frames for these panels and install them around Filwood, as a fun and creative way to celebrate the amazing 'Stars' who have been nominated by local people (more info below).

You will receive a workshop pack through the post ahead of the workshop with all the materials you will need, including paints, brushes, a perspex 'Star', design ideas and sticky back plastic shapes to mark out spaces for the solar cells to be added.

This free virtual workshop session will take place on Zoom, with an introduction to the project followed by a demonstration of how to create your design. You will then have a week to complete your design before your panels and workshop packs are collected and delivered to Art & Energy Collective to install the solar cells.

If you are unable to attend the Zoom session, the workshop will be recorded and made available as a YouTube video to be viewed and followed in your own time.

We will ensure each pack is fully sanitised, and hygiene measures and social distancing maintained during delivery and collection, to ensure the safety of all staff and participants involved.

The Filwood Fantastic 'Walk of Hearts & Stars'

The Walk of Hearts & Stars will celebrate and remember local people in Knowle West / Filwood during the COVID-19 crisis. KWMC The Factory has teamed up with the organisers of the Hearts & Stars volunteers’ awards to reimagine this event for 2020, as part of the Filwood Fantastic project.

We hope to be able to launch the Walk of Hearts & Stars in Autumn 2020, to be showcased on Filwood Broadway and as a wider creative trail or light festival across the local area. We are collecting nominations from local people, with the following categories:

Hearts ❤️ to commemorate the lives of Knowle Westers lost during the crisis and unable to have a funeral or memorial

Stars ⭐ to celebrate the efforts of volunteers and others going above and beyond to make a difference and support the local community.
